Whom We
Serve

The first question which the priest and the Levite asked was: 'If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?' But... the Good Samaritan reversed the question: 'If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?'

– Martin Luther King, Jr.

KSWS primary purpose offers various activities to the local children , youth and women with the aim to bring about a change in their socio – economic conditions , progress towards self empowerment and learning to live with dignity , self reliance and harmony.. To this end, we strive to ensure that everyone in KATAKHALI can exercise the right to seek stable socio-economic background. In support of its core activities on behalf of KAtAkhali, KSWS seeks to reduce situations of ill-health by encouraging the peoples of katakhali to create conditions which are conducive to the protection of human rights and the peaceful resolution of disputes.

The primary occupation of the people in this area is bidi making . as such they are exposed to hazards of ill health.they are extremely poor. so the question of sparing any means for the growth and development of their children is almost non existent. KSWS Focuses on the empowerment of women and youth because they are disproportionately affected by poverty and discrimination in katakhali where basic thought is like having an extra child ,means having more earning members in the family

The children need healthcare and education. KSWS has been working for the welfare of the children of Katakhali through its flagship venture ‘Swapnopuron Shishu Shiksha Niketan ’ – a school providing primary education. The school, through its various activities like nutrition camps, health awareness programmes, games, sports, etc., seeks to improve the health and fitness status of these young ones. Art, craft, dance, music and many more such activities, aim at nurturing the creative streak in each child.

The youth are encouraged to pursue vocational courses so as to enable them to be self sufficient financially and channel their energy towards creative living. Several projects are on to meet this need; for example – computer literacy and advanced training, hospitality training, security guards training are amongst some of the key areas of thrust. This is in keeping with the present level of educational qualifications and allied skills of the local youth community. Women are usually very busy managing families, their young children or catering to the needs of the elderly, with little time and concern for themselves. KSWS recognizes that the health of the woman is extremely important for herself and for others around, as each is dependent on her directly or indirectly. Therefore KSWS takes special care to ensure that the women of this village are equipped to deal with their specific health issues by providing basic medical care, holding awareness camps, etc. They are being trained to sew, knit, and make soft toys, with the aim to help them earn some money for their needs.

KSWS strives to help all those who need the same – be it by means of providing education, self-help opportunities, health-care or vocational training. Underlying everything KSWS does is the belief that equity or "equal opportunity" is the cornerstone to civilization. Every human being must have roughly the same opportunity to succeed in life, irrespective of where or how s/he is born. So we must stand side by side to help the people of katakhali and let them enjoy the costliest gift of god.

We can't help everyone, but everyone can help someone.

- Ronald Reagan
